What cherry angiomas are
Cherry angiomas are small, harmless growths made of tiny blood vessels. They're bright red to purple, can be flat or slightly raised, and range from a pinpoint to a few millimetres across. They become more common from your thirties onward, and genetics play a part.
Many people have them removed because they don't like how they look, or because they catch on clothing and bleed when scratched. The laser heats the blood inside the spot so it shrinks and fades.
If a spot is new, changing, bleeding for no reason or looks different from your others, have it checked by your doctor first.
What to expect
Your treatment, step by step
Free consultation
We look at the veins or spots, review your health history, medications and recent sun exposure, and tell you how many sessions to expect and what it will cost.
Treatment
You'll wear protective eyewear while the laser is pulsed over each spot. Most people say it feels like an elastic band snapping against the skin.
Right after
The spot usually darkens or turns grey. A small crust can form and falls off on its own within a week or two.
Results
Most cherry angiomas fade after one session.
Follow up
Larger or raised angiomas may need a second session.

Before
- Avoid tanning, tanning beds and self tanner on the area for at least two weeks before.
- Tell us about all medications and supplements, especially any that make your skin more sensitive to the sun.
- If your doctor agrees, pause supplements and medications that can increase bruising, like fish oil, vitamin E, aspirin and ibuprofen, for a few days before. Don't stop any prescribed medication without talking to your doctor.
- Come with clean skin, with no lotion, makeup or self tanner on the area.
- Tell us if you're pregnant. We don't offer laser treatments during pregnancy.
Aftercare
- Keep the area clean and dry.
- Let any crust fall off on its own. Don't pick at it.
- Wear sunscreen on the treated area while it heals.

Your laser treatment is done by Melissa Gagnon, RPN, founder of Canadian Beauty Boutique, who brings more than 15 years of experience in medical aesthetics. Melissa does your consultation and your treatment herself.
All of our laser and light treatments are done on the Cutera xeo, a medical platform that combines a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser with intense pulsed light (IPL) handpieces, including Limelight and ProWave LX, in one system. That lets us tailor every treatment to your skin and concern, and combine treatments in the same visit. The Nd:YAG laser can be used on all skin types, Fitzpatrick I to VI, and its built in cooling helps keep you comfortable.
