About

What skin tags are

Skin tags are small, soft growths that hang from the skin, often on a thin stalk. They can be skin coloured or a little darker, and they're most common where skin rubs together, like the neck, underarms and under the breasts. They become more common with age and during pregnancy.

Skin tags are harmless, but they can catch on jewelry, collars and bra straps, or simply bother you. Removing them is quick, and most visits take only minutes.

A growth that is changing, bleeding or doesn't look like a typical skin tag should be checked by your doctor first. We look at each one at your consultation.

What to expect

Your treatment, step by step

  1. Free consultation

We look at the veins or spots, review your health history, medications and recent sun exposure, and tell you how many sessions to expect and what it will cost.

  2. Treatment

Each skin tag is removed with the laser. Most people feel a quick, hot sting.

  3. Right after

A small scab forms where each tag was.

  4. Healing

The scab falls off on its own, usually within one to two weeks.

Before and aftercare

Before and after your treatment

Before

  • Make a note of the tags you'd like removed, so we can plan your visit.
  • Tell us about all medications and supplements, especially any that make your skin more sensitive to the sun.
  • If your doctor agrees, pause supplements and medications that can increase bruising, like fish oil, vitamin E, aspirin and ibuprofen, for a few days before. Don't stop any prescribed medication without talking to your doctor.
  • Come with clean skin, with no lotion or makeup on the area.
  • Tell us if you're pregnant. We don't offer laser treatments during pregnancy.

Aftercare

  • Keep the area clean and dry.
  • Let scabs fall off on their own. Don't pick at them.
  • Avoid rubbing the area with tight clothing or jewelry while it heals.
  • Wear sunscreen on treated areas that see the sun.

Who you'll see and what we use

Nurse-led care on the Cutera xeo

Your laser treatment is done by Melissa Gagnon, RPN, founder of Canadian Beauty Boutique, who brings more than 15 years of experience in medical aesthetics. Melissa does your consultation and your treatment herself.

All of our laser and light treatments are done on the Cutera xeo, a medical platform that combines a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser with intense pulsed light (IPL) handpieces, including Limelight and ProWave LX, in one system. That lets us tailor every treatment to your skin and concern, and combine treatments in the same visit. The Nd:YAG laser can be used on all skin types, Fitzpatrick I to VI, and its built in cooling helps keep you comfortable.
