Types of acne scars
When a breakout is deep or inflamed, the skin can lose tissue as it recovers, leaving a depressed scar. Rolling scars have soft edges, boxcar scars are round with sharp edges, and icepick scars are narrow and deep. Raised scars are less common.
Brown or red marks left after a breakout aren't true scars and often fade faster with the right treatment.

Common questions
Can acne scars be removed completely?
Most scars can be softened a lot, but not erased. A series of treatments gives the best result.
How many microneedling sessions will I need?
Most people need 3 to 4 sessions, about four weeks apart. Deeper scars can take more.
Should I treat active acne first?
Yes. It's best to calm active breakouts before treating scars, so new scars don't form.
