How it works
How laser nail fungus treatment works
Nail fungus, or onychomycosis, can leave nails thick, brittle and discoloured. Signs include thickened nails, white to yellow brown colour, crumbly or ragged edges, a nail lifting from the nail bed, dark debris under the nail and a slight odour.
The 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser on our Cutera xeo passes through the nail to heat the fungus underneath, without harming the surrounding skin. There's no medication to take, no numbing and no downtime.
The nail you have now won't change colour. Results show as healthy new nail grows out, which takes months, and good foot care afterward helps keep the fungus from coming back.
What to expect
Your treatment, step by step
Free consultation
We look at your skin, review your health history, medications and recent sun exposure, and plan how many treatments you'll need and what they'll cost.
Nail prep
Your nails are cleaned, trimmed and filed. Thick nails may also be thinned, which we can do at the clinic.
Treatment
The laser is passed over each nail. You'll feel warmth and tingling, and laser time is about 15 minutes, with no numbing needed.
Right after
There's no recovery time. You can put your shoes on and go.
Results
Healthy new nail is usually visible in about three months, and a toenail takes about 6 to 9 months to fully grow out.

Who you'll see and what we use
Nurse-led care on the Cutera xeo
Your laser treatment is done by Melissa Gagnon, RPN, founder of Canadian Beauty Boutique, who brings more than 15 years of experience in medical aesthetics. Melissa does your consultation and your treatment herself.
All of our laser and light treatments are done on the Cutera xeo, a medical platform that combines a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser with intense pulsed light (IPL) handpieces, including Limelight and ProWave LX, in one system. That lets us tailor every treatment to your skin and concern, and combine treatments in the same visit. The Nd:YAG laser can be used on all skin types, Fitzpatrick I to VI, and its built in cooling helps keep you comfortable.

FAQ
Common questions
Does laser nail fungus treatment hurt?
Most people feel warmth and tingling. It isn't usually painful, and no numbing is needed.
When will I see results?
Results show as the new nail grows. Healthy new nail is usually visible in about three months, and a toenail takes about 6 to 9 months to fully grow out.
Can the fungus come back?
Yes. Fungus lives in the environment, so you can be reinfected. Keeping feet dry, replacing or disinfecting old shoes and avoiding unsanitary pedicures help prevent it.
Do I need medication too?
There's no oral medication. We'll recommend a topical antifungal to use on the nail for three weeks after treatment.
Can fingernails be treated?
Yes. Both toenails and fingernails can be treated.
How much does it cost?
Laser nail fungus treatment is $250 per treatment.
