truSculpt iD is a nonsurgical body contouring procedure that uses monopolar radiofrequency energy to destroy fat cells throughout the entire fat layer, from just below the skin down to the muscle. It's commonly used to sculpt the abdomen, love handles, thighs, under the chin, and the upper arms.
The radiofrequency energy heats pockets of excess fat cells until they’re too damaged to survive, and the body flushes them out over the next 12 weeks. The heat also provides some mild skin-tightening benefits, as well as a temporary improvement in the appearance of cellulite.
Cutera, its manufacturer, points to a clinical study showing a 24% reduction in fat thickness from a single truSculpt iD procedure, as measured by ultrasound. This cosmetic procedure takes a multi-dimensional approach to circumferential reduction and body sculpting by delivering a precise therapeutic temperature to the subcutaneous adipose tissue in a unique way.

Typically, you’ll see a noticeable fat reduction in the treated area(s) after one visit. The heat can be uncomfortable for some, but most patients have minimal discomfort; Dr. Meeker compares the feeling to a hot-stone massage. And because the procedure is relatively brief, any discomfort you do feel doesn’t last long.
There’s no downtime afterward, so you can return to work, exercise, and other normal activities right away. The treatment area will feel warm and look flushed for the first hour after your treatment, and some people have tenderness and redness for a full day.
