Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)

Eliminate unwanted and embarrassing sweat with Botox injections.

BOTOX® is the only prescription medicine approved by Health Canada for the treatment of axillary (underarm) hyperhidrosis, which means it is deemed safe and effective when administered correctly by a specially trained medical professional.

Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating. The problem may be limited to the armpits, but often the hands and feet also sweat excessively. Hyperhidrosis becomes noticeable after puberty. Stressful situations such as examinations, job interviews, or an important date often aggravate the sweating. Sometimes, it takes almost nothing for the sweating to start and once it starts, it usually worsens until the affected person can get away from everyone else and cool down. Unfortunately, most over the counter antiperspirants do not control hyperhidrosis.

Botox Therapeutic and Xeomin Therapeutic have been used for many years to decrease excessive sweating. When used correctly, Botox and Xeomin are highly effective therapy for excessive sweating and effects can last 6 months or more in the majority of patients. Patients who have had Botox or Xeomin injections for excessive sweating are amazed by the positive change such a simple treatment can have. They often tell us that these injections free them from their fear of social embarassment!

It’s a very simple process and patients are usually extremely happy with the results as it essentially eliminates the need to worry about the excessive sweating for many months at a time.

Most private insurance plans cover Botox Therapeutic or Xeomin Therapeutic for hyperhidrosis (OHIP does not). Prior authorization is often required, therefore please contact your insurance company prior to your appointment. Your family doctor can complete any necessary forms for your insurance, or our medical director can complete the form for a fee of $80.
