Non-Surgical Belkyra Chin & Body Fat Reduction Treatment
Get rid of stubborn pockets of fat in just a few quick treatments! Deoxycholic Acid / PCDC, also known as “Belkyra” consists of phosphatidylcholine and deoxcholate which naturally occurs in the body. When injected it will permanently dissolve and naturally remove the treated fat cells.
The Deoxycholic Acid / PCDC is injected in a grid like pattern in the area of concern where it disrupts the fat cell membrane. The fat cells absorb the Deoxycholic Acid / PCDC and become slightly inflamed and burst, releasing their enzymes and fatty content. The inflammatory response begins, allowing the debris to be cleaned up by the macrophages that have migrated to the area. This inflammation response is responsible for some redness, soreness and hardness. New collagen is then deposited in the area, causing tissue retraction with denser and firmer skin. The fat and and cellular debris that are removed are collected as waste and excreted through the body's normal metabolic pathways.

Consultation

Treatment
Once we have determined you’re a suitable candidate, we will take a series of photos, so we can follow your transformation. We will mark the area with a grid of dots. This shows us how much Belkyra / Deoxycholic Acid to use. Most people have 15-20 tiny injections for under the chin. That’s it, you’re done.
The fat cell destruction causes a burning feeling under your chin for a couple of minutes. We add local anesthetic to the Belkyra / Deoxycholic Acid. Once the anesthetic is worn off, it feels sensitive to touch, like a bruise.

Deoxycholic Acid / PCDC targets fat by dissolving the outer covering of the fat cell, bursting it like a tiny balloon. The fat from the cells is released into the bloodstream and excreted by the body.

Immediately afterwards the treated area will swell up. The swelling is a sign that your fat cells have died. We love swelling!
The swelling peaks at day 2 and lasts up to two weeks. You might also have a bruise or needle mark that lasts about a week.
The area will feel firm, numb and lumpy, and could feel like a wobbly jelly when you move. It will be sensitive to touch. This is all part of the healing process. It usually takes 6-8 weeks to settle, and once it’s gone, we do the next treatment.
It’s a gradual process that takes 6 – 12 months. You’ll need two to six treatments spaced two months apart. Each treatment removes some fat.
The swelling after each treatment temporarily increases the treated area. This needs to settle, and your body needs to tidy away the fat cell debris, before you see the improvement.
Some lucky people see a change just two months after their first treatment. Most people will need to wait at least four months after starting treatment, and some will need to wait twelve months.
Rarely, Belkyra / Deoxycholic Acid can temporarily affect a nerve in your jaw, giving you an uneven smile for an average of 42 days. Studies show there’s a 2% chance of this occurring, and that the nerve always recovers, taking between 4 – 298 days.
Very rarely, trouble swallowing, skin ulcers and damage to deeper structures have been reported.
Once Belkyra / Deoxycholic Acid removes your fat cells, they’re gone forever, but your remaining fat cells could get bigger if you put on weight. Let’s say you started with 1,000 fat cells, and that each treatment removes 200 fat cells. After four treatments, you’d have 200 fat cells left. Those 200 fat cells can grow bigger, storing more fat, if you put on weight. However, with fewer fat cells, you’ll always store less fat to the treated area than you would have without Belkyra / Deoxycholic Acid treatment.
