About
What port wine stains are
A port wine stain is a birthmark made of widened capillaries in the skin. It's present from birth and often starts out pink, then can darken to red or purple and become thicker over the years.
Laser treatment targets the blood in those vessels to lighten the mark. The goal is to make it lighter and less noticeable, not to erase it, and it usually takes a series of treatments. How much it lightens depends on its size, location, colour and thickness.
If the port wine stain is on a baby or child, start with their doctor, who can refer them to a paediatric dermatologist.

We look at the birthmark, review your health history and past treatments, and plan your treatments with you.
Treatment

Redness, swelling and some bruising are common and usually settle over a few days.
Results

Follow up
Treatments are spaced several weeks apart, and we review your progress at each visit.

- Don't pick at any crust or scab.
- Protect the area from the sun and avoid tanning between treatments.

Nurse-led care on the Cutera xeo
Your laser treatment is done by Melissa Gagnon, RPN, founder of Canadian Beauty Boutique, who brings more than 15 years of experience in medical aesthetics. Melissa does your consultation and your treatment herself.
All of our laser and light treatments are done on the Cutera xeo, a medical platform that combines a 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser with intense pulsed light (IPL) handpieces, including Limelight and ProWave LX, in one system. That lets us tailor every treatment to your skin and concern, and combine treatments in the same visit. The Nd:YAG laser can be used on all skin types, Fitzpatrick I to VI, and its built in cooling helps keep you comfortable.
